Kanda Matsuya Honten

Choose an old Kanda soba house for a meal, keeping its opening days separate from Kanda Yabusoba.

Cold mori or warm kake

For a meal centred on the noodles, look at mori soba; choose kake when you want a warm broth. Goma soba offers another direction if you enjoy sesame sauce. Decide whether you want a straightforward bowl or a longer meal with side dishes, then consult the shop’s actual menu for prices and availability.

Walking bands are computed by FOW on the OpenStreetMap surface street network at 80 m/min and drawn as a smoothed approximate area around the streets reached. They ignore exit positions, station interiors, underground passages, signals, slopes and routes inside buildings — not directions; follow on-site signs.

Keep Monday out of the plan

The Honten lists Tuesday–Friday 11:00–20:30, with last orders at 20:00; Saturday and public holidays 11:00–19:30, last orders 19:00. It closes on Sunday and Monday. Older Monday-opening listings are misleading. Do not assume an immediate table; ask the Honten about arrangements if group size or timing is critical.

Look above the entrance

Before or after the meal, look above the entrance for pine and arrow motifs. Tokyo’s heritage record describes these details in the 1927 building as a play on the name Matsuya. The motifs give you a specific detail to look for in this old restaurant. Use the entrance actually open on the day, even where the facade presents two symmetrical doors. If opening or waiting conditions do not work, an exterior look can be the whole stop.
