East, changing the scale of an evening

At 19:00, choose two rice-based sweets at Isetan, settle into one small bar, then see the tower’s wave-patterned glass. A booked film or show needs a longer evening than this short sequence.

Walking times are estimates from OpenStreetMap’s surface street network at 80 m/min. They exclude underpasses, decks, station concourses, signal waits, slopes and movement inside buildings. Straight-line links are not walking routes; follow on-site signs even where a time is shown. Shaded quarters show the approximate areas around FOW’s selected places.

Conditions and alternatives

A full performance does not fit this evening. Golden Gai entry and charges differ by bar.

If no bar suits, end the evening at the tower. Add a performance or film at its real show time.

A small comparison in the department store

Isetan closes at 20:00, making around 19:00 a useful start for one department. At Suzukake on B1, compare Suzu-no-Monaka’s crisp Koganemochi-rice shell with Suzu-no-Enmochi’s elastic Hiyokumochi-rice wrapper around azuki. Two pieces at the listed ¥128 each total ¥256, subject to fresh-stock availability. Leave 20–30 minutes for choosing and paying. For homeware instead, choose one maker such as Kimura Glass on 5F and finish the purchase before closing.

Choose one door in the lanes

At Golden Gai, choose a bar to sit in rather than only lanes to pass through. Albatross G at 1-1-7 is listed from 19:00; Kouro has a Rock-Ola jukebox and a long history but asks newcomers to contact it ahead. Establish the current cover, drink and ordering terms at either. Kouro’s 2024 menu gives an ¥800 cover and ¥700 drink, a ¥1,500 scale for one drink. Leave 40–60 minutes to sit, with queues and ordering additional. If no seat or terms suit, continue to the tower; if the conversation runs long, finish the evening in the bar.

An exterior finish or a film

At the tower, see the broad white wave from Cinecity Square, then compare the smaller cast-aluminium wave pattern at ground level. Allow 20–35 minutes for a brief look at the exterior and food area, adding any meal separately. For a film, select its actual start, subtitle language and format first. Standard A is ¥4,500 and S ¥6,500, with SCREENX an extra ¥700; welcome-concession service is already included. The cinema accepts no cash, and under-18s cannot attend screenings ending after 23:00 even with a parent. The 19:00–21:30 example joins shopping, one bar and the exterior; add separate time for a meal or film.

Walk to the next entrance

Choose the actual bar before leaving Isetan. Sources has separate walking links to Albatross G at 1-1-7 Kabukicho and Kouro at 1-1-10. Kouro asks first-time visitors to call; find the combined Shintei–Kouro sign, go around to the rear entrance and up to 2F. After the bar, open its walking link to Cinecity Square for the tower’s exterior finish.
