Isseido Booksellers

Browse older books and reference material with a subject in mind, as an alternative to a general new-book store.

Give the search a subject

Isseido covers Japanese and foreign-language humanities books and classical Japanese books. A narrower subject—ceramics, traditional performance or art—makes the catalogue a different search from browsing new releases. For an old edition, note the publication year and edition as well as author and title. A catalogue entry does not mean the book will be on an open shelf: enquire about a specific work and ask how valuable material may be handled.

Walking bands are computed by FOW on the OpenStreetMap surface street network at 80 m/min and drawn as a smoothed approximate area around the streets reached. They ignore exit positions, station interiors, underground passages, signals, slopes and routes inside buildings — not directions; follow on-site signs.

Regular hours and exceptions

Regular guidance is Monday–Saturday 10:00–18:30, closed Sunday and public holidays. Book-festival periods can bring special openings and temporary closures, so read the shop’s current notice for the intended day. Ask before handling material when its price or browsing conditions are unclear.

Know when to switch shops

For English-language books, compare Kitazawa; for Korean-language books, compare CHEKCCORI. These are separate businesses with different floors and schedules. Choose a useful first shop and give it time. Then decide whether another would add to the visit.
