Bank of Japan Head Office Tour
Reserve a free tour of about 1 hour through the former vault and banking floor. Choose a language-specific session and check age and original-ID requirements.

Follow the vault and former banking floor
This reserved programme is separate from the Currency Museum. A guide takes you through the Main Building, an Important Cultural Property, including its underground vault, former banking floor and exhibition rooms. Allow about 1 hour for the whole visit, as participants cannot leave partway through. Choose it when you want to walk through the bank and connect its spaces with its work.
WHERE · On foot from here
How far from the station, and which side
North-west of Mitsukoshimae Station, about 200 m in a straight line from the station point. The position is the official address point and may differ from the entrance. The shaded areas are about 5 and 10 minutes on foot from here.
Good to know
Follow the reservation confirmation and the bank’s visitor-entrance instructions.
Read together
Walking bands are computed by FOW on the OpenStreetMap surface street network at 80 m/min and drawn as a smoothed approximate area around the streets reached. They ignore exit positions, station interiors, underground passages, signals, slopes and routes inside buildings — not directions; follow on-site signs.

Choose the language before fixing the date
The regular English tour is on the third Wednesday of each month, 13:45–14:45. Its minimum age is 11; ages 11–12 need a responsible adult. Japanese sessions are booked separately and admit children from elementary grade 5, with a guardian for elementary pupils. Book well ahead through the bank’s tour page and confirm the participant-name deadline for your date. Individual visitors needing English can start with the regular English session. A weekday Japanese tour does not automatically change its spoken language.
Prepare your ID, luggage and access needs
Bring original ID matching the registered name and your reservation confirmation, and arrive for the designated check-in. Security includes a metal detector and X-ray inspection of belongings. Lockers hold small items only; leave suitcases and large bags elsewhere. The route includes stairs, so request wheelchair arrangements or other support when booking. Photography is limited to designated spots. Skip the tour this time if you cannot store your luggage or commit to its fixed schedule.
Groups of 5 or more can request English
A party of 5 or more can request an English-guided tour in an available Japanese-tour time slot. Check the online calendar for your preferred date and time, then email the address in the official tour instructions. The Bank provides only one language per slot: a Japanese booking already occupying it rules out an English group tour then. Complete the participant-name, age and ID requirements and obtain the Bank’s confirmation before fixing the visit. Once the booked tour language is settled, download the official Tour Audio Guide app as a supplement. English or Japanese audio and text become accessible after reception check-in; bring earphones.
