Hideo and Sachiko Suzuki's café name connects Chaplin's Smile and Miles Smiles. Sausage/mushroom/green-pepper Napolitan, displayed CDs and JBL speakers put a meal and jazz in one room.
Choose it as a cafe combining food, conversation and jazz, rather than a dedicated listening room. Reports of indoor smoking mean you should not assume a smoke-free setting.

Hideo and Sachiko Suzuki opened Smiles in 1996 after working at Shinjuku jazz café DUG. The name joins Chaplin's 'Smile' with Hideo's favourite, Miles Davis. Miles Smiles appears in the window. A 2023 owner interview described JBL speakers, roughly 300 CDs and a preference for modern jazz, piano and vocals. The owners wanted guests to eat, drink and talk rather than concentrate exclusively on the music.
Deep green walls and amber flooring surround booths. The central seats sit slightly higher than the window seats; an August 2026 visitor described sound arriving from above and behind when seated along the wall. Windows overlook the shopping street, while the raised middle tables turn attention into the room.

Which side of the station, and how far
East of Yoyogi-Uehara Station, about 20 m in a straight line from the station point. The position is the official address point and may differ from the entrance. The shaded areas are about 5 and 10 minutes on foot from here.

Napolitan and coffee, then evening snacks
For a meal, Napolitan is a concrete first order. An April 2025 visitor paid ¥1,200 with salad and a drink. It was ordered again in June 2026; that photograph shows thick spaghetti, sausage, mushrooms and green pepper in the red sauce. It supplies a full lunch rather than just a coffee stop. An August 2026 account also found stir-fries, boiled dumplings and century eggs alongside sandwiches. Whisky and cocktails give the same room an evening use.
Smiles is at 1-32-16 Uehara, about one minute from South Exit 1. A 2026 visitor gives weekday hours of 11:30–22:00, Saturday 12:00–22:00 and Sunday closure. Confirm the hours before travelling; an operator timetable is unavailable. Indoor smoking is reported. Bring cash as a fallback, and choose elsewhere if your party needs a smoke-free room.
