HMV record shop Shibuya

A two-floor Udagawacho record shop for choices such as Onuki’s fusion-pop or Mamiya’s rhythm-guitar-led songs on reissued LP.

Add it to test a genre discovered in a small specialist against a broader new-and-used selection.

Visit fitFor setting aside time to compare genres and reissue editions across two dedicated floors.

It is a dedicated record destination rather than simply a corner in a general shop.

Good to know

Compare SUNSHOWER’s Rhodes and saxophone with LOVE TRIP’s voice and rhythm guitar, then choose by catalogue number, vinyl colour and sleeve.

Rock downstairs, club music above

HMV record shop Shibuya occupies two floors at Noah Shibuya, 36-2 Udagawacho. DEEPTOKYO's September 2025 reporting placed rock, Japanese pop, soundtracks and seven-inch records on 1F, with hip-hop, R&B, reggae, jazz and club music on 2F. It found listening stations on both floors and Bankrobber LABO at the back upstairs. Start on the floor matching your music.

Walking bands are computed by FOW on the OpenStreetMap surface street network at 80 m/min and drawn as a smoothed approximate area around the streets reached. Keyboard-led fusion or voice and rhythm guitar

Taeko Onuki’s SUNSHOWER gives a starting point for following a jazz-fusion instrumental setting. On the original 1977 album’s 都会, Taeko Onuki sings over Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Fender Rhodes and synthesizer, Haruomi Hosono’s bass, Chris Parker’s drums and Yasuaki Shimizu’s soprano saxophone. It offers a clear entry into Japanese pop built with jazz-fusion players.

LOVE TRIP, Takako Mamiya’s sole 1982 album, takes another direction. Guitar Magazine singles out its wistful voice and clipped, rhythmic guitar playing across much of the record. Start with SUNSHOWER for the interplay of keyboards and saxophone; choose LOVE TRIP when the voice and rhythm guitar are the attraction.

Choose an edition of the same music

Two issuer-listed editions make the physical choice more precise: SUNSHOWER CRJ-1030 is clear purple vinyl; LOVE TRIP PROT-7340 is clear vinyl in an A-style sleeve. The issuer’s catalogue reference prices for these editions are ¥4,000/¥4,500 before tax, or ¥4,400/¥4,950 including tax. Use the catalogue number, colour and package to distinguish reissues in the shop. These suit playing the music without paying for an original’s scarcity.

Add the two floors when time allows

Regular hours are 11:00–21:00. Add an estimated 45–60 minutes after Tower, Union and Face when you still want to search the same genre. Use the Udagawacho address, separate from HMV&BOOKS Shibuya.
