BerBerJin main store
BerBerJin’s main shop concentrates the search on American vintage and denim.
Choose it when Chicago’s broad browsing has narrowed your interest toward denim.

The main shop, Fakeα, &BerBerJin and Collective are distinct addresses.
Fading becomes meaningful when compared with stitching, repairs and actual measurements.

BerBerJin has bought American vintage since 1998. The main shop is SH Building 1F, 3-26-11 Jingumae, distinct from Fake α and its web store. Earlier operator listings of 1950s leather-patch Levi’s 501XX and 1960s zip-fly 501ZXX provide concrete examples for comparing patches and fastenings. Buttons or zip, patch and repairs all help explain the particular garment beyond a decade on the label.

Which side of the station, and how far
North-east of Meiji-jingumae 'Harajuku' Station, about 400 m in a straight line from the station point. The position is the official address point and may differ from the entrance. The shaded areas are about 5 and 10 minutes on foot from here.

Walking bands are computed by FOW on the OpenStreetMap surface street network at 80 m/min and drawn as a smoothed approximate area around the streets reached. They ignore exit positions, station interiors, underground passages, signals, slopes and routes inside buildings — not directions; follow on-site signs.

Measurements beyond the size label
An earlier listing for 1990s Lee 205-5508 black straight jeans shows why a tag and a measurement are different information. Even a W32/L30 pair had its waist and inseam measured separately. Bring the waist, rise and inseam of trousers that fit you, then inspect crotch and hem wear or pilling on the pair you try. The zip and leather patch give you more to examine than the overall fade.
A 1970s Lee Western denim shirt supplies a different construction example: contrasting yoke and pocket flaps against dark indigo. The seller described suede-like chamois cloth, not a confirmed leather trim. Try the shoulder line and sleeve length, then compare wear in the different fabrics and their seams. Shared branding matters less than where each garment fits and what needs attention.
Workwear hardware and alterations
Archived 1930s BLACK BEAR denim work pants bring several details into one example: suspender buttons, exposed rear rivets and the trace of a cut-away buckle. The seller separately disclosed repairs, marks, missing rivets and stitching loss. Reading the hardware of old workwear and judging its present condition are related tasks.
For study or collecting, surviving parts and alterations may be the interest. For something to wear, also consider how repaired areas feel when you move. Age and rarity do not describe condition on their own. Look for the attachment points, cut traces and restitched seams that turn an impression of “old denim” into a more precise judgement.
A first wearable purchase at the main shop
The main shop opens 13:00–19:00. Start with a shape you need—black straight jeans, for example—plus your measurements and spending ceiling. On trousers, inspect crotch and hems; on the shirt, shoulder fit and wear in the contrasting cloth. These are the places where fit and repair needs become tangible. Allow an estimated 45–60 minutes if fittings are available. Chicago offers a broader search across used-clothing categories; BODE offers new garments developed from older textile decoration.
