GLOCAL RECORDS
A third-floor Jingumae record shop tracing a DJ’s connections across dance, jazz and world music.
It suits finding connections beyond a familiar genre rather than checking off a fixed list.
Visit fitFor discovering unfamiliar records through a DJ's selections. Choose another record-shop route on Wednesdays and Sundays.
A DJ’s selection supplies a different guide from a large shop’s genre divisions.
Relate an unfamiliar record to rhythm or instrumentation you already enjoy.

GLOCAL RECORDS · resized and croppedA shop for different mixes of one track
GLOCAL opened in Harajuku in 2011, selecting used records across breakbeats, house and techno through reggae, world and jazz. Röyksopp’s REMIND ME twelve-inch, introduced by the shop with remixes by Tom Middleton and Ernest Saint Laurent, gives a concrete example. Compare its versions of the track, rather than only playing an album in sequence.
WHERE · On foot from here
Which side of the station, and how far
South of Meiji-jingumae 'Harajuku' Station, about 400 m in a straight line from the station point. The mark is a verified point, not the entrance. The shaded areas are about 5 and 10 minutes on foot from here.
Walking bands are computed by FOW on the OpenStreetMap surface street network at 80 m/min and drawn as a smoothed approximate area around the streets reached. They ignore exit positions, station interiors, underground passages, signals, slopes and routes inside buildings — not directions; follow on-site signs.

Follow percussion into dub
Sean Miller’s CANIBAL ROYAL and Aristidez’s EVASIVAS ESOTÉRICAS EP offer two examples of the shop’s musical connections. The seller describes percussion with dark synths in the former, and tribal percussion with dub processing in the latter. Listen for the sounds driving the rhythm and the way echoes create space, even within music broadly filed for dancing.
Use online samples to pick one rhythm or instrument you like, then follow it into another record instead of searching only for familiar names. Comparing mixes of one song, as with REMIND ME, and finding related sounds across different works are complementary ways to move beyond a genre label.
