Displays rotate by theme. Its 2026 nightscape exhibition used Ōi’s hand painting and prints by Hiroshige and Kiyochika to explore different treatments of light.
When a display includes paintings and prints, compare brushwork with printed lines and colour. Use the exhibition checklist for specific works.

Ota Memorial Museum rotates its ukiyo-e collection by theme. Its 2026 nightscape exhibition explored light and shadow through Hokusai’s daughter Katsushika Ōi’s Night Scene in the Yoshiwara. This is a hand-painted work rather than a woodblock edition; the museum noted that only about a dozen of her paintings survive worldwide.
Hiroshige’s Night View of Saruwaka-machi and Kiyochika’s Ryōgoku-bashi Bridge in Civilized Tokyo gave the same exhibition different views of blue night skies and modern-city light. The example shows the choice between seeking one rare work and comparing several artists through a theme.
WHERE · On foot from here
How far from the station, and which side
North-east of Meiji-jingumae 'Harajuku' Station, about 60 m in a straight line from the station point. The shaded areas are about 5 and 10 minutes on foot from here.
Walking bands are computed by FOW on the OpenStreetMap surface street network at 80 m/min and drawn as a smoothed approximate area around the streets reached. They ignore exit positions, station interiors, underground passages, signals, slopes and routes inside buildings — not directions; follow on-site signs.
