Shibuya Kitaya Park

Pause in Jinnan’s stepped public commons and, when dates align, encounter its music and market programme.

Visit fitFor a brief pause in Jinnan without a purchase. Plan another facility if the stop needs to include a public toilet.

The park is approximately 960 m², including a 249 m² runway and a separate 66 m² stage with stepped seating.

Good to know

Look at how people sit and pass through the stepped plaza. Treat a park pause, a cafe purchase and a dated music or market event as separate choices.

A slope becomes benches and a stage

Kitaya Park is a roughly 960m² pocket park at 1-7-3 Jinnan, reopened in 2021. Nikken Sekkei contributed basic/landscape design and operation, with interiors by Keiji Ashizawa. The slope becomes seating above a lower stage: a 249m² runway plaza, 67m² roofed area beside the café and 66m² stage serve different activities. Public benches require no café purchase.

They ignore exit positions, station interiors, underground passages, signals, slopes and routes inside buildings — not directions; follow on-site signs.

A normal pause or an event visit

On an ordinary day, allow an estimated 10–20 minutes on the stepped benches. For a music or market programme, check its official timetable and budget separately for purchases or refreshments. The municipal specification provides normal 24-hour access without scheduled closed days, subject to event areas, weather and maintenance notices.

Official walks are about seven minutes from Shibuya Station, eleven from Harajuku and one from the Hachiko Bus stop at Shibuya Ward Office. There is no public park toilet; café toilets are for customers. Plan another toilet for a longer event visit. Smoking, skateboards, kick scooters and bicycle entry/parking are prohibited; take rubbish home.
