Children's Science Center Hachilab
Free ordinary entry differs from workshops with residency, grade or application restrictions.
Visit fitFor families interested in indoor science activities. Check language, school-grade and residence conditions if English facilitation or a particular course is essential.
The packing puzzle fits eleven square blocks into a square container where three can align but four cannot. A ball-drop device reveals a recurring distribution.
Follow the questions that interest a child in the ordinary exhibits, distinguishing them from application-based courses. Free admission does not mean unrestricted access to every programme.

On Owada's 3F, Hachilab makes science and mathematics physical. 'Packing Luggage' fits eleven square blocks into a square container, where three can align but four cannot: changing orientation becomes part of the problem. The two-peak distribution pachinko sends many balls down a board into a recurring pattern. Compare one fall with the shape after many falls.
The floor divides into Hachi Gallery's hands-on, panel and video exhibits; Hirameki Workshop's short making activities; Naruhodo Laboratory's classes; and a lounge of science/mathematics books. Opened in 2010, the centre works with universities, research organisations and businesses. Its name joins Hachiko, Hachiyama Junior High and 'laboratory'.
WHERE · On foot from here
How far from the station, and which side
South-west of Shibuya Station, about 250 m in a straight line from the station area. The position is the official address point and may differ from the entrance. The shaded areas are about 5 and 10 minutes on foot from here.
Walking bands are computed by FOW on the OpenStreetMap surface street network at 80 m/min and drawn as a smoothed approximate area around the streets reached. They ignore exit positions, station interiors, underground passages, signals, slopes and routes inside buildings — not directions; follow on-site signs.

Free exhibits and separate courses
Ordinary admission is free for everyone, 10:00–17:00. Monday closures have holiday and school-break exceptions; classes can separately restrict grade, residence or applications and charge materials fees. English facilitation remains unverified. At 23-21 Sakuragaokacho, current operator access gives five minutes from JR New South Gate/Sakura Stage or A5. Start with the two permanent activities; add the paid 12F planetarium only if a scheduled dome show suits the child.
