Daikokuyu Yoyogi-Uehara

A neighbourhood bath shaped by the Ishikawa family’s practical changes, from removing a bath–sauna partition to adding a standing shower.

Visit fitFor a soak after an Uehara walk, with an interest in how a working neighbourhood bath has been adapted. Ask at reception about adding sauna access.

Jet, bubble and electric baths, groundwater cold tubs and standing showers shape the sequence. A 2022 interview with the Ishikawas explains removing the bath–sauna wall and the outdoor-side rest route.

Good to know

Notice how the standing shower and range of baths divide the sequence of bathing.

A family’s changes to bathing and sauna

Daikokuyu has jet, bubble and electric baths, a standing shower and cold bathing. Old scales, rattan changing baskets and bathroom mosaics belong to its working neighbourhood setting. It uses natural groundwater; that does not establish hot-spring certification or a health benefit.

Shintaro Ishikawa's 2022 interview explains changes made with his father Hiroaki: removing the wall between separately paid bath/sauna areas, adding a standing-shower partition at a customer's request, and distinguishing hot/cold baths with warm/cool lighting. The report documented front/rear sauna rooms, cold water immediately outside and a dedicated sauna rest room. A small bath room combined mist, bubbles and electric bathing. Equipment in service and temperatures remain dependent on the day.

Walking bands are computed by FOW on the OpenStreetMap surface street network at 80 m/min and drawn as a smoothed approximate area around the streets reached. They ignore exit positions, station interiors, underground passages, signals, slopes and routes inside buildings — not directions; follow on-site signs.

Washing, soaking, resting and the cost

At reception, choose bathing alone or bathing with the sauna. The operator described giving sauna users a towel basket and explaining that they should wash in the bath area first. Ordinary soaking is also a complete visit; sauna access adds the cold-bath/rest-room circuit. Take breaks according to your own condition and keep towels out of the baths.

Shibuya's tariff, updated 27 August 2026, is ¥600 for ages 12+, ¥200 for ages 6–11 and ¥100 under six. Check the charges at reception before adding sauna access or rentals. If you have tattoos, confirm admission with the branch before travelling. Bringing towels keeps them out of the extras you need to arrange. The address is 3-24-5 Nishihara, about three minutes from Yoyogi-Uehara. The bath association lists 15:00–01:30 the next day, Sundays from noon, closed Wednesdays.
